The new campus is located in Hangzhou in eastern China's Zhejiang Province, near the Dream Town and the Academic Exchange Center of the Future Science and Technology City and across the river from Jack Ma’s alma mater, Hangzhou Normal University. The campus covers a total area of about 375 acres, the phase one of construction area is 46,667 square meters, and the building area is about 43,814 square meters. It is composed of teaching, administrative, and logistics services.
The new campus is designed by the famous architect Yao Renxi who built Wuzhen Theater. His design stress the requirements of the Oriental Garden and the New Chinese Architecture. The main building is circular, surrounded by water on all sides, and the gardens are staggered. It integrates the basic elements of traditional Jiangnan garden architecture such as walls, roof tiles, pavilions, and layout. Based on absorbing the essence of gardens, it re-expressed the space, artistry and spirituality of the building. The space is organized in the style of a garden. It also has the function of modern science and technology teaching. It is natural and environmentally friendly.
